Xiaomi Overtakes Apple In The Sale Of Smartphones

The Chinese company Xiaomi has surpassed Apple in the global sale of mobile phones during the third quarter of 2020 and is ranked as the third provider of ‘smartphones’ in the world, according to Gartner data.

Among the top five mobile phone manufacturers, the South Korean company Samsung has been in the first position with a market share of 22 percent and more than 80 million units sold, followed by the Chinese company Huawei, with 14.1 percent cent and more than 51.8 million units sold.

For its part, Xiaomi has overtaken Apple for the first time during the third quarter and has positioned itself in third place with a market share of 12.1 percent and around 44.4 million units sold, compared to 40, 5 million units of Apple, which represents a decrease of 0.6 percent compared to 2019, and a market share of 11.1 percent, according to a study by Gartner.

“The slight decrease was mainly due to the delay in the start of Apple’s shipment of its new generation of iPhones, which in previous years always starts in mid to late September. This year, the launch event and the start of shipment began four weeks later than usual, “said Annette Zimmermann, Gartner vice president of research.

The Chinese company Oppo is in fifth place with a market share of 8.2 percent and a total of 29.8 million units sold.

After two consecutive quarters of a 20 percent drop, mobile phone sales have started to show signs of recovery.
