Since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has taken the gaming world by storm. Its hybrid capability for portable and docked functionality appeals to gamers of all types. Now, rumors are starting to swirl about a new model launched later this year.

Recently, we learned that Nintendo will be working on a new iteration of its popular Switch console with a 7-inch OLED display, 4K output capability, and a tentative release date of 2021.

This report came from Bloomberg, and while the source remains on its stance on hardware upgrades for the new Switch, it has adjusted its proposed release window, with a new report suggesting that the Nintendo Switch 2 or Switch Pro will arrive. now before the end of March 2022 .

According to the report, it is likely that “  Kyoto-based Nintendo expects sales of its popular Switch game console to be flat or slightly higher in the fiscal year ending March 2022,  ” and that the the introduction of a new Switch console “Pro” will help it achieve this goal.

That said, some analysts believe there will be a major slowdown in game console sales next year, as life begins to return to some semblance of normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic. Matthew Kanterman of Bloomberg Intelligence says “  with or without a better Switch, Nintendo console sales are likely to decline over the course of the year starting in April  .”

Focus on games?

While a new Switch device should translate into bigger sales numbers, the report mentions some of the company’s other plans. It is assumed that Nintendo will also break sales records by releasing a wide range of gaming experiences during this fiscal year . As most of this inside information comes from partners and vendors, there is no official announcement from Nintendo regarding a new Switch at this time.

Fortunately, Nintendo’s new console will be backed by a solid lineup of exclusive game releases before or near launch, including Mario Golf Super Rush, Splatoon 3, and an HD remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Additionally, last week it was rumored that the new Switch Pro may get original and exclusive games, as well as be backward compatible with the thousands of existing and future standard Nintendo Switch titles.
