The day has finally come for Apple to show the world what it has been working on for the last year. The Keynote is expected to be packed full of new products, and a radically new iPhone. Here’s what you need to know.
This radically new and improved iPhone has been rumored for months now, and today is finally the day we figure out if all of the rumors have been true. Apple is rumored to actually have three new iPhones that will be announced today and go on sale sometime later this month. A new and updated iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are expected. There is not a major redesign rumored with the 8 and 8 Plus as it will focus on improved internals, and maybe an upgraded camera, and it will retain the design of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. This pattern has been followed for years by Apple, but this is the year that all changes. Apple is also expected to release them iPhone X. This new iPhone is rumored to have a bezel-less 5.5” display, Facial Recognition, or Face ID, an OLED display, a brand new vertical camera system, and more features that have been mentioned in source code, but are currently unknown. Many suspect this iPhone to be aimed towards “pro” uses, but many will lean towards the new device, as it is a major change from all of the previous iPhones over the last ten years. These new iPhones, however, are not the only thing you can expect to hear about.
Over the last month or two, more rumors and source code have hinted at a brand new Apple Watch Series 3 being announced at the event as well. The Series 3 would not feature a major redesign, however, it would add LTE capability to allow the watch to continue to function even if it was out of range of its partner iPhone. If this were to be the case, the watch would share a phone number with an iPhone and it would have to be added to your cellular data plan, but major U.S. contractors are expected to offer various promotions for the watch.
Along with the new iPhones and Apple Watch, iOS 11, watchOS, and tvOS should be released today or within the next week or two before the new iPhones ship. Last week Apple released its Golden Master Edition of iOS 11 to developers, signaling the public release of iOS 11 is just around the corner. When the Golden Master edition of iOS 11 leaked last week, it mentioned a new code name for Apple’s Air Pods, hinting that the company’s wireless earbuds may get a refresh as well. This would be interesting to see how the Apple were to improve of the product, as it already has a 98% customer satisfaction rate, and it does not have any major/noticeable flaws.
Nonetheless, today is going to be both an exciting and busy day in the tech world. If you plan on watching the event, Apple will be streaming the Keynote on its website here. The Keynote will begin promptly at 10 a.m. PST, and will run for about an hour and a half to two hours.
