Game Sharing on the Xbox One: The Future of Sharing Games?

In previous years, sharing games with your friends meant loaning them your game disc, or giving them access to your account leaving you unable to play your games. Digital gaming has become more popular over the last two years, and Microsoft has a created a way for you and one other friend to play the same game at the same time while only paying for one copy of the game. Only digital games can be shared!

This new feature is called Game Sharing. To set-up Game Sharing you will need:

·       2 Xbox One Consoles

·       A friend/family member’s Xbox Live Account

Step Overview:

1.     Get Xbox Live account information from family/friend

2.     Add the account to you Xbox One

3.     Set your Console as your “Home Xbox”

4.     Download your friend’s games

Step 1: Get Xbox Live account information from family/friend

To use the Game Sharing feature, you will need to add the friend/family member’s account to your Xbox One. To do this you will need their username and password, gather this information.

Step 2: Add the account to you Xbox One

To add the new account scroll left from the Home screen to open the guide. Then go down and select Add & Manage. Click Add New. Now enter in the details of your friend/family account.

Step 3: Set your Console as your “Home Xbox”

To be able to set your Xbox to share your games, it must be set as your “Home Xbox”. To do this scroll left from the Home screen to open the guide. Then go down to Settings > All Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox > Make this my home Xbox. Note: This can only be changed 3 times per year, so choose carefully.

Step 4: Download your friend’s games

Go into the My Games & Apps and scroll over to the Ready to Install area. Your friend’s games should now be there. If they aren’t, sign into the family/friend account once and then sign back into your account.  Make sure to have your friend/family member do the same on their Xbox so you can have access to their games too!

With digital games becoming more popular, Game Sharing allows customers to save money while still enjoying the best new titles with their friends.
