What to Expect: Apple March 2016 Press Event
Apple's latest media event is taking place on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10 AM PST. The current speculation is that a new iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch bands will be announced. A 9.3 update to iOS is also possible. Apple will be streaming the event live on their website and on Apple TV.
Rumors have been speculating for weeks that Apple will be announcing a new iPhone named iPhone 5SE. Analysts are predicting this will be Apple's first launch for a smaller phone since the reveal of the iPhone 5S in 2013. Many believe that the phone will not be cheap and will look like a mix of an iPhone 6 & 6S, but in an iPhone 5/5S form factor. It is reported that the phone will have and A9 processor, an 8-megapixel rear facing camera, a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera, Touch ID, and NFC for Apple Pay. One major feature reportedly missing from the list is 3D touch included in both the iPhone 6S & 6S Plus. Many believe the phone will be available in all of Apple's signature colors: gray, silver, and gold. Estimates place the new device to start out at around $450 USD alongside the iPhone 6.
Apple has yet to update the iPad Air lineup. Many believe a 9.7 inch iPad will replace the iPad Air and be dubbed as a smaller iPad Pro. If Apple were to do this, the tablet would most likely see upgrades in its processor, camera, battery, and possibly see Apple's new smart connector. By adding the smaller tablet into the "pro" category Apple will be taking a major step in separating its high-end tablets from its low-end.
Apple Watch Bands & Watch OS 2
It has been almost a year since Apple released its Apple Watch and consumers will most likely have to wait a little longer for Apple Watch 2. However, rumors have been stirring about Apple watch bands in new colors and made from new materials. A possible partnership with a high end fashion company to create fashionable bands is not out of the question. Apple could also release Watch OS 2.2 update containing a few new features.
Like I mentioned before a small update to iOS with iOS 9.3 is not out of the question. Apple has been seeding final beta versions of the 9.3 update to developers and could soon be ready for the public. iOS 9.3 includes features to change the tone of a user's screen to be warmer of cooler or to be able to lock notes by using Touch ID.
