What to Expect: Apple September 2015 Press Event
For the last 5 years, Apple has had a September announcement to reveal their next installment of their flagship phone. Apple is holding a major announcement on September 9, 2015. If rumors that are being leaked are true this announcement will be BIG!
The event kicks off on September 9th at 1 p.m. EST/ 10 a.m. PST. You can follow all of the latest news on numerous live blogs. It has not been confirmed if Apple will live stream the event, but many live blogs will keep you up to date. After the event wraps up you can catch all of the latest news here
iPhone 6S & 6S Plus
Apple's announcement should bring two new iPhones into the world, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Following traits of previous "S" years these new phones will bring no physical appearance changes and mostly internal upgrades. Rumors have also suggested the new phones will be capable of force touch, have an updated Apple A9 processor, a higher resolution camera and a new rose gold color to match the Apple Watch.
Expect the new phone to launch 1-2 weeks after the event and look for preorders to start as early as September 11th. The 6S will most likely start at $199 for 16gb, $299 for 64gb and $399 for 128gb. The 6S Plus will most likely start $100 more expensive than the 6S.
Rumors have been circulating for months that Apple will be releasing an "iPad Pro" with a larger screen size, possibly a stylus and force touch. The tablet is targeted towards rival tablets around the same size, attracting power users and users that want a larger screen size.
News about an iPad Mini update is also in the air. The new mini tablet would most likely be called the iPad Mini 4. The tablet would retain most of its physical appearance characteristics from the iPad mini 3 and would add an updated processor, camera and force touch capabilities. No major refresh for the iPad mini family is expected.
Surprisingly no news about the iPad Air family has been heard. If Apple were to announce a new iPad Air no major changes are expected. The tablet would gain an updated processor, camera and possibly force touch. Much like the iPad Mini. Many think Apple will focus largely on the "iPad Pro" if it is announced.
Apple has not updated its Apple TV for close to 3 years and rumors are flying about a new "Apple TV". The new box top would show off a new slimmer design along with a new user interface. A new black colored remote with a microphone built in is also rumored. Along with the box top will come strong integration with Siri, iTunes and the App store but with no tv streaming service. Apple's tv streaming service was rumored for a while but news about complications appeared and the service was most likely delayed.
The new box top will supposedly gain Apple's A8 chip that is currently in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and will come with 8 or 16gb of storage. The box top is reported to start out at $149 with a higher price point for the additional storage. Rumors have also suggested that 4K video will now be supported. In recent months Apple has significantly cut the price on their current Apple TV to supporting a refresh on the 9th.
The Apple watch was only just announced late last year and went on sale in April. The watch is not anywhere due for an update but 9to5Mac reported that Apple has been working on new colors for their sport bands. Apple is expected to announce these new colors and a short mention of Watch OS2 would not be surprising.
iOS 9 was announced earlier this year at WWDC and we may learn more specific details we have been waiting for: when the OS will be available to the public. The new OS will ship with the new phones, and if Apple follows previous years the OS will be pushed for the public shortly beforehand.
If most of these rumors are true, the event will be a busy one. Many websites like iMore, The Verge and Mac Rumors will have live blogs if Apple does not live stream the event. Mark you calendar because this is an event you will not want to
