Google Drive has updated its search functionality for mobile users, which should make it faster and easier for you to find the files you need. The latest changes to the Android and iOS versions of the Google Drive app provide smart search suggestions, based on factors like past searches and frequently viewed files.
“ We’re launching new features for the Google Drive mobile apps that will help you search faster and more efficiently, ” says an update from Google Workspace. “ Now Android and iOS users with the latest versions of the Drive app will be able to: View and relaunch recent searches on desktop and mobile; [and] view and select smart suggestions as you type, including people suggestions, past searches and keywords, and recently viewed files ”.
Google notes that the launch of the new search features was prompted by changes in the workplace following the COVID-19 pandemic. With the increase in the number of people working away from their desks, it has become more and more important that they can find files quickly using their smartphones.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced companies to allow large-scale teleworking, with social distancing measures being enforced around the world. In this new world of work, the cloud has become vital to enable organizations to keep operating while ensuring the safety of their employees.
Simplify the search
However, the pandemic has also increased competition among cloud solution providers, which has led many to update their service offerings. In addition to the new search functionality, Google Drive recently changed the way Microsoft Office documents are edited on the platform.
Google Drive’s new search feature will be made available to all Google Workspace and G Suite users over the next two weeks, provided they have the latest version of the app installed and the option to Web and App activity privacy is enabled in their Google account.
